Pueblo Day at Sonoma State Historic Park

Sat, June 24, 2017, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

On June 24, 1835 Lieutenant Mariano Vallejo, The commandante of Sonoma, was ordered to establish a presidio and pueblo in Sonoma. This was the official beginning of the city of Sonoma. Pueblo Day, held on June 24, 2017 at the Sonoma Barracks, commemorates that event. This event is FREE!!! Parks staff and volunteers will have tables set up where visitors can try activities such as wool carding, lassoing, making tortillas and designing a pueblo flag.

California Treks in Time will be presenting its traveling trunk history program “Mission and Ranchos” twice throughout the afternoon. Visitors will be able handle historic artifacts and learn about the historic figures involved in the development and everyday life on Rancho Petaluma, the Mexican land grant given to Vallejo by Governor Jose Figueroa in 1834. Visitor will also be able to try their hand at leather tooling and take home their own stamped wristband as a souvenir!

Make a day of it! Grab a yummy ice cream cone from Sweet Scoops Homemade Ice Cream Shop, sample some cheese and deli goodies from Sonoma Cheese Factory, then head on over to the Sonoma Barracks for some FREE fun! Hope to see you there!
