BERLIOZ: Overture to King Lear
RAVEL: Piano Concerto in G major
RACHMANINOFF: Symphonic Dances
DEBUSSY: Clair de lune

Picture King Lear’s entry to the council chamber, the storm on the heath, the terrible prison scene and the lament of Cordelia in Berlioz’s overture. Ravel sets off a sublime, elegant—even delicate—second movement with a jazzy first and third in his Piano Concerto. Music Director Candidate Andrew Grams contrasts the light, upbeat Ravel with Rachmaninoff’s dark-hued and brooding Symphonic Dances. Debussy’s beloved Clair de lune, with its luscious sound, resonates in the heart.
