Quartet

Cecily, Reggie and Wilfred live in a home for retired opera singers where an annual concert is held to celebrate Verdi’s birthday. Jean, who used to be married to Reggie, arrives at the home, still acting like a diva, and refuses to take part in the concert. But the show must go on in this funny and poignant play from Ronald Harwood (The Dresser), who created these four characters with a wry tenderness. “Art,” says Reggie, “is meaningless if it doesn’t make you feel.” “Quartet” makes you feel – happy, sad, compassionate, thoughtful – and realize that while the body might be fading, the spirit never dies.
