The Kinsey Sicks: Things You Shouldn't Say

Sun, December 3, 2017, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

ONE NIGHT ONLY – SUNDAY, DEC. 3, 7:30 PM
Congregation Ner Shalom, 85 La Plaza Cotati

Named one of the top ten shows at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, THE KINSEY SICKS, America’s Favorite Dragapella Beautyshop Quartet, bring Things You Shouldn’t Say to Sonoma County for one night only, Sunday, December 3. The event is at Congregation Ner Shalom, former site of the Cotati Cabaret, at 85 La Plaza in Cotati.

This widely acclaimed show tells the remarkable true story of the boys behind the girls: four friends from San Francisco who had a life-changing epiphany at a Bette Midler concert that led to them to form THE KINSEY SICKS in an effort to find joy during the darkest days of the AIDS crisis. Now that the Trump era is upon us, they’re sharing their hilarious, inspiring and at times heartbreaking tale, showing that hatred and deceit can be fought with humor and heart.

Critics have described “Things You Shouldn’t Say” as “powerful,” “provocative,” “delicious,” “subversive,” “hilarious,” “stirring,” “exquisite,” “electric,” “outrageous,” “heartbreaking,” “brave,” “mesmerizing,” “flawless,” “superb,” “incredibly moving,” ”inventively diabolical,” “riotously funny,” “vitally significant,” and “an absolute must watch.”
For nearly a quarter of a century, THE KINSEY SICKS have provided a feast of music and comedy in 43 states and abroad. They have been praised by the New York Times for their “voices sweet as birdsong,” and were called by KQED “the Royal Shakespeare Company of drag performance.” They have released 8 albums and have been the subject of two feature films. This is a tricky political moment in our country. As KINSEY SICKS founder Ben Schatz said in an October 16 New Yorker profile, “We are living in a historical event, and we have the responsibility to try to shape that event and not just watch it happen.” Come join THE KINSEY SICKS for some tips on using humor to shape the event we’re living in.
