Winter Lights – Downtown Tree Lighting

Fri, November 24, 2017, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

This year’s theme, “I Believe in Santa Rosa”, embodies the hope, resiliency, and volunteerism of a city that was already strong and is intent on coming back stronger.

This year, we’re partnering with Santa Rosa Fire Fighters’ Toys for Kids drive, so bring a toy for a child in need. The evening starts with the arrival of Santa Claus on top of a fire truck. Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, everyone’s invited to have their picture taken with Santa in the City of Santa Rosa’s Out There Welcome Wagon.

There will be delicious food and beverages from local hot spots and food trucks, including beer and wine for the grown-ups and free hot chocolate and cookies for the kiddos. Ornament painting, a bouncy jump house, an ugly sweater contest, live performances … there’s a lot see and do before the main event.

The festivities are particularly special to those who participate in the Remembrance Candle Lighting and Tree Lighting portion of the night. Over 30 years ago, Sutter Care at Home began the person-to-person candle lighting tradition in honor of loved ones who are no longer with us. After all the candles are lit, the countdown begins to illuminate the grand tree with thousands of color-changing LED lights.

This beloved celebration is traditionally held on the Friday after Thanksgiving in Courthouse Square, and is free and open to the public.
