Sat, October 27, 2018, 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Ner Shalom’s New Cotati Cabaret will host “The Monster Mash” dance party featuring the Thugz on Saturday, October 27 from 8:00 – 11:00 PM.
The West Sonoma-based Thugz (“tribal hippie underground zone”), self described as “purveyors of Cosmic Americana & Old Time Psychedelic Music” will once again bring their Hippie vibes and music to Congregation Ner Shalom’s New Cotati Cabaret, 85 La Plaza, Cotati, on Saturday, October 27 from 8:00 to 11PM in “The Monster Mash.” There will be a prize for the best costume. The event is a fundraiser for Congregation Ner Shalom.

Event organizers say, “Channel your inner monster and let the weird times rock and roll. All ghouls, ghuys and flexible flyers welcome. Come strut your stuff! Zoom like a zombie! There will be a prize for the best costume The more bizarre, the better! “

Some free tickets have been set aside for those impacted by either last year’s or this year’s fires.
Based in western Sonoma County, the multi-faceted Thugz has delighted music fans of all ages and tastes. Rock, blues, country, psychedelic and various world music styles blend together at a Thugz show to bring the “positive vibes” of the 60’s into the 21st century. Informed by the music of Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, the Beatles, Miles Davis and others the Thugz’ original songs and cosmic jams help to create a fun, communal spirit between band and audience.
Congregation Ner Shalom sits in what was once the Cotati Cabaret which, in the 1980s, was one of the premiere northern California rock and roll venues. The Thugz will perform on the same well-worn stage where Jerry Garcia performed in a side band he created with John Kahn, called Reconstruction.
“We’re a bunch of hippies,” says Mike Campbell, the Thugz’ bandleader and founder. “The Thugz are beyond just playing music,” he says. “It’s all about the people in our bands and our fans, who have been coming to see us for years, to celebrate the community that has kept us going. Also, we’re trying to promote those things that were good about the renaissance days of the 1960s. The more people that want to join us in that the better.”
The Thugz are: Mike Campbell – guitar, trumpet & vocals, Chris Lushington – bass, Sylvia Murphy – keyboards & vocals, Andre de Channes – guitar & vocals, Stephanie Salva – vocals, uke & percussion, Russ Kerger – keyboards & sax, and John Shebalin – drums.
Wine, beer and (legal) munchies will be available for purchase. There will be a raffle and a monster-themed fashion show.
General Admission is $20 and Sponsor tickets, with swag, are $50. Purchase at shalomevents.org or by calling (707) 664-8622.
