Join us for a special fundraising event for critically endangered Sumatran orangutans! A special afternoon with a presentation about orangutan conservation by wildlife photographer Suzi Eszterhas, live music by the 2 of Us, silent auction, hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer, and more! All proceeds will help the Sumatran Orangutan Society purchase a palm oil plantation which has gone out of business, and restore the land back to rainforest in order to create a forest home for displaced orangutans.
Orangutans and other jungle animals endemic to Sumatra, including Sumatran tigers and elephants, are in grave danger of extinction due to habitat loss from the palm oil industry. This is a timely opportunity to return some of their lost territory. Working with Indonesian partners, the Sumatran Orangutan Society will buy and restore this 890 acre site to its former natural glory. Removing the oil palms and replanting the forest will encourage orangutans and other wildlife to return, extending their habitat from the neighboring national park.
