Hidden Past of Santa Rosa at History Museum of Santa Rosa

Thu, August 30, 2018, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Behind the familiar stories and published histories of Santa Rosa are the uncommonly known bits of history that surface from oral traditions, archaeological digs, and records. In this program, Sonoma State Anthropology Professor Margaret Purser will explore with Adrian Praetzellis, Eric Stanley, Nick Tipon, and Katherine Rinehart the fragments of local history that have been discovered that give a richer or augmented perspective of the past.

Nick Tipon is an elder of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, and has served on the Tribe’s Sacred Sites Protection Committee. He also served as the Tribe’s National Parks and NAGPRA Liaison and is a former Tribal archaeological site monitor.

Adrian Praetzellis’ experience in archaeology began on Roman and medieval sites in the UK. After moving to Sonoma County in the 1970s, he led hundreds of archaeological research studies in California including excavations at the site of the Sonoma County Museum and the Hoag House

Eric Stanley is a graduate of Sonoma State University’s Masters Program in History. He is the Curator of History for the Museums of Sonoma County
