The Sonoma County Folk Society and California Bluegrass Association are teaming up once again to bring you a great day of music, workshops and jamming. Started in the year 2000, we celebrate a long and fruitful partnership bringing a wide variety of acoustic roots music to our community.
This year is no exception. With bluegrass, old time, cowboy and folk, the 2019 lineup has something for everyone. We’re excited to feature the energetic, bluesy stylings of the Duo Quartet. Blame Sally’s Pamela Delgado & Jeri Jones will team up with Nina Gerber & Chris Webster for a Double-Duo evening. They’ll each be doing their own duo thing, then mixing it up for some dueling guitar jams and three-part harmonies. Bring your dancing shoes for this one!
Bluegrass fans will enjoy a rare appearance by Jerry Wicentowski who will feature material from his CD “Thanks Mac, The Songs of Mac Wiseman.” Jerry will be joined by some of the best bluegrass musicians in the bay area: Keith Little (banjo), Jody Stecher (mandolin), Chad Manning (fiddle) and Paul Knight (bass.)
Nu-Blu,are a husband and wife duo of Daniel and Carolyn Routh from Silver City, NC. With Calder Baker on banjo and Justin Harrison on fiddle and mandolin, expect fine singing and great song choices backed up by superb instrumental work.
The Bloomfield Bluegrass Band is “by common acclaim the finest traditional bluegrass in Bloomfield, CA (population 300.)” These Sonoma County locals are dedicated to the traditional bluegrass repertoire with some newgrass and gospel tunes thrown in.
Old time music fans will appreciate Plaid Strangers, Karen Ceilia Heil and Maxine Gerber. No strangers to the San Francisco old time music scene, Sonoma County folks will be treated to some fine fiddle and banjo stylings. Be sure to catch the Fiddle Workshop with Karen during the break!
Cowboy Singer and horseman Mike Beck will be returning to the SCB&FF, this time as a solo performer. The critically acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitarist is a veteran performer who has toured with Western folk legends Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and Ian Tyson. He has become well known on the Western music circuit for his soulful portrayal of the American West and is a staple at the Western Folk Life Center’s Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada. In addition to his performance on the main stage, Mike Beck and local cowboy singer Scott Gerber will collaborate on a workshop discussing the lives of working cowboys while swapping songs.
