Cinnabar Theater closes its 45th season with the Tom Jones-Harvey Schmidt musical The Fantasticks, directed by Elly Lichenstein with musical direction by Mary Chun.
The Fantasticks holds the world’s record for longest-running musical and with good reason: it’s a timeless fable of love that manages to be funny and romantic; nostalgic and universal, rolled into one charming show, featuring songs like “Try to Remember” and “Soon It’s Gonna Rain.”
The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and girl fall in love, then grow apart and find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo’s words that, “without a hurt, the heart is hollow.”
Performances are June 8-24: Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.; Sundays at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $25-$45 with reservations strongly suggested. Call the box office (707-763-8920) from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, or buy tickets online at cinnabartheater.org.
