Art Reception: Russian River Seasons

Sat, April 1, 2023, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

 APRIL EXHIBIT: RUSSIAN RIVER SEASONS

EXHIBIT DATES:  March  27  – April 30, 2023

RECEPTION: APRIL 1, 2023:  1- 4 PM:  Join the artists to celebrate the show and see a pastel demo by Karen Miller and a monoprint demo by Gail Morgan.  Refreshments will be served.

Local pastel artist, Karen Miller, presents Russian River Seasons,  a collection of  pastel paintings that capture the region’s seasonal passages.  “February Sunshine,” a glorious rendition of mustard overflowing a vineyard is a splashy overture to the printemps.  Miller’s masterful use of the intense colors of the pastel medium make the trees shimmer and the water sparkle in these nature-inspired works. The artist has a passion for subjects in nature, especially trees, flowers and water.  The Russian River, at Sonoma’s heart, ties together the inspiring natural elements iconic to our area.  Miller taps into this bounteous beauty in her pastel pieces, whether it be ripples in the river, flowers in a field or branches of a tree.  “I love finding new delights in my surroundings – beauty is at our doorstep,” noted Miller.

Born in Sacramento, Miller has lived in Healdsburg for the past 30 years.  She studied fine art at UC Santa Cruz, then pursued a career as a structural engineer.  Returning to fine art, she began working in soft pastel in 2014.  Miller has exhibited in numerous shows; she was recently accepted to the Pastel Society of the West Coast 2023 members show.  She is a signature member of the Society.

Meet the Artist: Miller will be hosting the Gallery on April 10, 15, 24, 29 from 11am – 2:30pm.

The Staircase Showcase on the stairway presents Gail Morgan’s Meditations,  a collection of abstract monoprints that explore the idea of meditation through art, connecting mood and mind.  Morgan simplifies form and color, creating a sense of peace and tranquility in her works.  Features and shapes work together in a rhythmic fashion to engage the viewer in surprising ways.  The process, itself, creates surprises as Morgan works directly on a clear plate with inks and texture making tools.  Once the paper goes through the press, the result (in reverse) can create some wonderful unexpected results. Morgan is very focused as she works, noting that “Creating this Meditations series helped sooth the uncertainties of recent times.”

Meet the Artist: Morgan will be hosting the Gallery on April 7.11, 23 from 2:30 – 6 pm.
