Join us at Fort Ross State Historic Park on Saturday, August 5th, for a “Day of Play” on Sonoma’s stunning coast! This exciting event promises a day full of adventure, games, and artistic inspiration for the entire family.
Calling all young pirates between the ages of 4 and 11, with adult supervision, to embark on a thrilling Pirates Play treasure hunt! Meet Pirate Warren and his merry band of buccaneers as they search for their stolen treasure of sparkling gems, shiny coins, exquisite jewelry, and glimmering gold. Be a part of this rollicking fun adventure, and those who assist Pirate Warren (Doyle) in finding his treasure will get to share in the spoils!
For seasoned pirates, don’t worry, you’re not left out! All pirates young and old are welcome to partake in the excitement. So, whether you’re a seasoned swashbuckler or a first-time adventurer, come and join the treasure hunt!
After the treasure hunt, gather at the Fort for the exhilarating Coreball Tournament from 2 PM to 4 PM. This energetic netball game, offered by wellness instructor Geni Quartaroli, is designed to stimulate aerobic activity, improve reaction time, enhance hand-eye coordination, and increase upper-body strength. But the best part is that Coreball is inclusive and adaptive, making it easy for everyone to join in on the fun. The game is seated and is inspired by Cornelius, an adorable pup on wheels that serves as an adaptive inspiration to all players. Regardless of age or skill level, Coreball guarantees an enjoyable and confidence-building experience.
In addition to the exciting activities, we also have an art exhibit unveiling by the talented Marissa LeCount at the Visitor Center from 1 PM to 3 PM. Explore her captivating art and be part of the free reception with refreshments, making it a perfect way to round out your day at Fort Ross State Historic Park.
“Growing up in rural West Sonoma County, it was hard not to be inspired to create. I am mostly self-taught as an artist though I do have an AA in fashion design from FIDM and a BA from Mills College, where meditation and plant ecology were my favorite courses. Like a lot of us, the recent pandemic made me reflect on what was most important to me and I once again found an outlet through art. Being surrounded by rugged coastal beauty, towering redwoods and verdant rolling hills is an extreme privilege that has helped me through very difficult times. If my art can help provide comfort or catharsis to others, that is what I strive for,” Miss LeCount says.
So, mark your calendars for Saturday, August 5th, and head to Fort Ross State Historic Park for a “Day of Play” like no other. From Pirates Play treasure hunt to the Coreball Tournament and the awe-inspiring art exhibit by Marissa LeCount, there’s something for everyone. Bring your friends, family, and your sense of adventure to this unforgettable event on Sonoma’s beautiful coast. We can’t wait to see you there!
