Dia de Muertos – Day of the Dead at Sonoma Community Center

Dia de Muertos – Day of the Dead at Sonoma Community Center
Sat, November 2, 2024, 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm

As the capstone to a month of community programming and in celebration of this time-honored Mexican tradition, the Center’s Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) will take place on Saturday, November 2. Free to all, there will be an Altar-Lighting ceremony on the front lawn, a dance performance from Ballet Folklorico Quetzalen on the back patio, food, drinks, and art activities will take place in the Rotary Community Kitchen and Room 110. Join us for this very special evening.

Our 12’ public altar, constructed by local sculptor Jim Callahan, has ample room for photos and other items that honor lost loved ones, and every year we invite community members to contribute their mementos to the ofrenda in a shared celebration of those who have passed on. See how to submit a photo below.

There are lots of ways to get involved in our annual Día de Muertos programming, including volunteering, in-kind or financial contributions, and sponsorships.

Every October, the Center offers a variety of programs and other activities in conjunction with Día de Muertos, inviting our community to join us in exploring the cultural practices and traditions surrounding this holiday. Please check our event calendar for more information about upcoming Día de Muertos programming and events.
