A new series curated by TLC with locals covering a favorite album in it’s entirety, track by track.
This month features Travis Hayes, Schlee, Bummer Peak, Orion Rush, and Marley Namack.
If Travis Hayes’ debut album, Young Daze, captured the wistful optimism and possibility of youth, his second, Sleepless, is the sound of finding the strength to stand up after life has slammed you into the concrete one too many times. The album, written after the sudden death of a dear friend, encompasses what it is to be alive: the joy of love, the agony of loss, the terror of embracing hurt, and the ultimate release of healing. Sleepless is the sound of shedding one scarred and fractured skin, in order to crawl into another, stronger one. But for all its sadness, Sleepless is ultimately marked by a deep sense of hope; the will and desire to keep moving forward, even in the shadow of grief. “In the end,” Hayes says, “these were more than just songs. They saved my life.”
Schlee is a genre bending artists from Northern California. Inspired by vulnerability and the things that make us grow. Schlee, is songstress & visual artist bringing softness to a hard world.
Bummer Peak, the brainchild of Gabe Katz, is a musical collective of sorts. The band features a revolving cast of characters; members have included Linden Reed, Hunter Ellis, Asher Katz, Brandon Hendrickson, Brian Kincaid, and more.
This configuration will be Gabe Katz, Brandon Hendrickson, Linden Reed, and Schlee.
King Dream is a Bay Area rock ‘n’ roll band helmed by Oakland native Jeremy Lyon, a lifelong songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who crafts dive bar anthems with heart, brains and soul. Hard-rocking yet poignant, his music combines a love for American rock masters like Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty with ‘60s West Coast psychedelia and more contemporary torch-bearers like My Morning Jacket and The War on Drugs — all brought to life by a band of Northern California’s most in-demand players.
Singer songwriter Orion Rush aka Ryan Rushworth blends experimental indie and acoustic pop. Ryans first instrument was the drums, which quickly lead to forming a band at 15. Two weeks after picking up the drums he saved up to buy a guitar to start writing music for himself. Since then he’s been in many bands and projects ranging from punk, to hip hop. Orion Rush is an amalgamation of years of songwriting that touches on many facets of life’s endeavors.
Marley Namack
I’m currently a sophomore in High School and I’ve been playing guitar for about two years now. I’m also a poet, I’ve done readings in the past for school and read my own work for a show at the record store where I work. Besides poetry I write songs and have been working on composing guitar to go along with them. I play electric guitar in the Petaluma High School Drumline and trombone in the Petaluma High School Band, but I hope to perform more shows outside of the school program.
