It Cant Happen Here Sinclair Lewis play in Petaluma
Fri, July 19, 2024, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Based on the 1936 Sinclair Louis play “It Can’t Happen Here”, this reading performance is being presented throughout the US on July 19. Like the original play, it warns against the rise of fascism.
“It Can’t Happen Here”, a play by the first US Nobel Prize winner in Literature, Sinclair Lewis, opened simultaneously on 21 stages in 17 states on October 27, 1936, one week before that year’s presidential election as a warning against the rise of fascism in America.
“It Can’t Happen Here – Again” is being presented simultaneously on multiple stages nationwide on July 19 as an homage to the 1936 production and a call to action now, in 2024. The Petaluma reading performance will be presented by non-actor community members. The runtime is approximately 30 minutes.
