“Blues, ballads and boisterous good fun” – that’s how internationally renowned jazz guitarist Mimi Fox describes Acoustic Sisters, a new acoustic duo project with blues/jazz singer Pamela Rose. An intimate evening of duets, steeped in early blues, folk and some original material – with two long-time collaborators and friends.
Fox has been a Bay Area resident for decades, but hometown opportunities to catch this globetrotting guitar star are few and far between. A blazing straight-ahead fret master who combines bebop-infused technique with an abundance of soul, Fox has performed and recorded with some of the most commanding players in jazz and plays with a profundity that only results from a lifetime of commitment and total immersion in one’s art.
Rose is a San Francisco jazz and blues vocalist who has thrilled audiences locally and internationally with her swinging, soulful style. Rose is also known for her concerts celebrating remarkable women in blues and jazz. Her ‘Wild Women of Song’ shows resulted in a book and concert series, which has toured nationally over the past eight years. Most recently, Rose created ‘Blues is a Woman’, an ensemble work in an explosion of Blues and Blueswomen. Rose has eight recordings under her name, is on the Faculty of the Jazz School in Berkeley, and continues to perform and teach in the Bay Area.
