Speakeasy: Poetry and Music at Santa Rosa Arts Center

Music: Steve Shain has been playing the string bass since 1963 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Currently performing with poets, dancers, jazz ensembles and other improvisers in the Bay Area. He performs original voicings on upright bass with special guests to be announced.

Poetry: Diane Willie is an instructor at the Native American Community Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated from Haskell Indian Nations University with an Associates degree and the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She has pursued graduate studies in Creative Writing and Education. She is from the Navajo tribe of New Mexico. Her favorite authors are Leslie Marmon Silko and Louise Erdrich. Diane was chosen to introduced Joy Harjo at a recent conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Her chapbook of poems is “Sharp Rocks” published in 2017, by Mammoth Publications.
