Behold the Beauty Guided Hike – Springtime in the Redwoods!
This Ranger-led hike will begin where the coastal grasslands end and the redwood forest begins. We will observe flowering shrubs, vibrant green new fronds of our many ferns, annuals in bloom, and maybe a salamander or two.
Did you know that some ferns are evergreen and some are deciduous, just like trees? Did you know that there are over 10 different species of ferns at Jenner Headlands Preserve? Have you ever seen a salamander? How about an ensatina? (What is an ensatina, you say? Perhaps you’d like to join our hike and find out!)
Participants can expect to hike approximately 4 miles. This moderate hike will include the steep downhill descent of our Logger’s Lament Trail, connecting to the more gentle Russian Gulch Trail before it ascends up the Sea To Sky Trail back to our vehicles. We will break for lunch along the way – bring a sack lunch.
Please Note: Registered guests will meet at the Jenner Visitor Center, across from the gas station in the center of town. From there we will drive into the Preserve and park at the forest edge, where the hike will begin. Carpooling is requested, to the extent that you’re comfortable.
