Kyle Martin performs acoustic at The Lost Church in Santa Rosa, as part of a songwriters in the round. Thursday January 18th.
Native to the North Bay, Kyle Martin is a singer-songwriter, performer, multi-instrumentalist and studio recording artist who has recorded in Sonoma County for over 20 years.
Kyle Martin’s Family Business
A foundation was made musically by his parents who were each members of regionally-renowned performing acts. His Father “Craig Martin” a front-man, singer of a San Francisco based top-40’s, 50’s Tribute band ” Butch Whacks And The Glass Packs”. His Mother, Nancy Martin “Polly Rhythmic” a drummer who appeared in a plethora of musical acts most notably a boogie-woogie, jump-blues, swing-band called “2120” and an early member of Kyle Martin Band.
Kyle Martin began his musical career at 14 by formulating his first band as a freshman in High School, a fast-paced, post-punk/alt rock band Lost Leader, independently producing a few amature garage recordings.
At 19 Kyle settled in the agricultural flatlands of his hometown Santa Rosa where he formed an underground house-venue/farm called the Boogie Room and Gardens. That year in 2007 his father died and also that year he formed the first incarnation of The Kyle Martin Band with his Mother Nancy, “Polly Rhythmic” on drums.
After having the lease at the Boogie Room terminated he sought after new beginnings in West Sonoma County. There he found himself living and working in the town of Occidental where he began his longterm musical relationships with bandmate multi-instrumentalist Kevin Cole and the beginning of a second musical group The Jen Tucker Band.
It was then Kyle became enthralled in his community gain, gigging regularly in a Tavern called Barley and Hops Tavern often playing every weekend where he would develop his own playing and writing, making songs and albums in his preferred non-conforming style and producing his first full length self titled album, “Kyle Martin”, in 2012.
After finding inspirations from his travels in the high deserts of Southern California he released his second album “High And Dry” recorded as a live studio Album at Jackalope Records in 2015 with a band comprised of Sonoma State Jazz Band Alumni Taylor “Libby” Cuffie on Drums, Garret Davis/Nate Dittle Keys, Kevin Cole/Paul Lamb On the Bass.
In 2019 he began production on his 3rd album while working at Prairie Sun Recording where he met Los Angeles based producer and engineer Chez Marolo.
coinciding with production of the 5th Jen Tucker album “Cold Moonlight,” the two tracking sessions often paralleled going from one band’s session to the next, spanning over a year with three multi day sessions at Prairie Sun in Cotati, California.
This post-alternative, genre-builder pulls from many different vintage-styles on a spectrum between exotic and iconic classic rock. It’s achieved with carefully arranged chord progressions, groovy rhythms, and a combination of improvised vocals and songwriting collaborations with engineer Chez and friend/bandmate Jen Tucker from a compilation of notebooks spanning decades of formulation.
Kyle Martin performs guitar, piano/keys bass and main vocals. Bass and drums by Kevin Cole, and percussion from Ben Roots and Mario Aparicio.
Kyles current musical project, Sonomacana, is an original and cover group performing West Coast vintage, Ska, Rock and Reggae and often do a version of our band that has looped hand percussion we call “dubstyle”   by live recording and playing against our own rhythm track. It’s a lot of fun and people have been enjoying it in a casual and party setting, it’s a very dynamic sound! Sonomacana consists of Dave McCleaned on guitar, Kyle on Vocals guitar/bass/melodica , and Lara Brown  sings, plays the flute and ukulele.  Check us out, we have music and bio on our website,
