David Templeton's Twisted Christmas Live!

Sun, December 9, 2018, 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

David Templeton’s ‘Twisted Christmas Live!’, once among the North Bay’s most popular annual holiday events, will return this December after an absence of five years. Produced and hosted for ten years (from 2003-2012) by Sonoma County writer David Templeton, the offbeat literary variety show – now dubbed ‘Twisted Christmas Live! (The Reunion!)’ – will take place on Sunday, December 9, at Spreckels Performing Arts Center in Rohnert Park.
The show is a benefit for Spreckels Theatre Company and its numerous youth programs.

Simply put, Twisted Christmas is a selection of off-the-wall holiday-themed stories, read aloud by some of the funniest (and, um, strangest) people in the Bay Area. Stories selected for this year’s show include Doogie Horner’s hilarious “A Die Hard Christmas,” Healdsburg writer Irene Hodes’ eerie ghost story “Invisible,” quirky Canadian gem “Lucretia,” and two by David Templeton, the roller coaster humor piece “Mickey Stickle’s Infamous, Nationally-Televised, Christmas Eve Breakdown,” and longtime Twisted Christmas fan favorite “Crumbs at Midnight,” told from the point of view of cookies left out for Santa. In addition, there will be a little something called Night Before Christmas Bingo, random gifts tossed into the audience (sort of), and a command appearance by The North Bay Zombie Caroling Choir.

Featured readers for the “reunion” show are award-winning political comedian Will Durst, Goth comic (and ‘America’s Got Talent’ contestant) Oliver Graves, television actor-director Charles Siebert (‘Xena, Warrior Princess’), actor-comedian Debi Durst (Tim Burton’s ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’), Reed Martin (of the Reduced Shakespeare Company), Transcendence Theatre Company’s Brad Surosky, and radio personality Robin Pressman (of KRSH and KDFC). Presenting a pair of musical parodies of Disney’s ‘Frozen’ will be singers Lucy London and Katie Kelley, with pianist Nancy Hayashibara.

WARNING: Some material (language, cruelty to sugar cookies) may be inappropriate for children and the gluten intolerant, or those still looking forward to the arrival of Santa on Christmas morn.
