Two Sonoma County Artists Collaborate on a Color Adventure

Fri, August 3, 2018, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Show runs August 3 through September 9, Open Tuesday-Friday: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday & Sunday: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

“Color Beyond Profusion: an Unexpected Collaborative Surprise”, an art collaboration by Karina Nishi Marcus and Jill Keller Peters opens Friday, August 3rd, with an artist reception, 6 – 7:30 pm, at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts in Sebastopol. The show runs August 3 – September 9.

For this exhibit, “Color Beyond Profusion”, three color palettes that stretch the artists’ customary quiver of colors were selected both by random and educated approaches. With this collaboration, Nishi and Keller Peters, both passionate colorists, treated color in dissimilar ways. They examined new avenues of employing color to express thought, concept and dreams that are channelled through their art.

The artists painted a work in each of the three color palettes and also co-produced collaborative pieces from each palette. Each of the co-selected palettes presented both problems and opportunities to explore and discover new adventures in the range and scope of the world of color. The collaborative paintings are fashioned in acrylic and oil on canvas and paper.

Says Keller Peters, “Nishi and I have been acquainted for a number of years, but only after I nervously inquired if she would consider doing a collab with me did we become friends. Through wide ranging conversations at SoCo Coffee, amid the ongoing chess games, our trust that was needed for this collaboration was shaped. We developed our mutual knowledge from various studies and explored our ideas, plans and strategies to manifest such an all-encompassing endeavor.”

The artists have not seen each others individual works. The first time they will see the three triptychs together will be at the opening. Please come and be surprised along with the artists at this profusion of color.
