On September 16th, Petaluma Poetry Walk begins its 23rd year at 11 AM at the Hotel Petaluma Ballroom for the first time with new Sonoma County poet laureate Maya Khosla. She will be reading with fellow 16 Rivers Press poet Beth Spencer and Sebastopol poet Fran Claggett-Holland. Besides the Hotel Petaluma, the Petaluma Poetry Walk will be initiating readings at Bump City Bakery and River Front Café. Also for the first time this year Petaluma Poetry Walk will have two readings with poets who write in Spanish and English. At 1:00 PM at the North Bay Café, Berkeley poet laureate Rafael Jesus Gonzalez will read with 2015 Pen Oakland Lifetime Achievement Award poet Avotcja and Ukiah poet laureate emeritus Jabez Churchill. At 5:00 PM at the Petaluma Historical Museum, Sonoma County poet Phyllis Meshulam will read & lead some California Poets in the Schools students who write and read in both Spanish and English. Another first, at 4:00 PM at the Phoenix Theater, Native American readers Dave Holt, Ukiah poet laureate emerita Linda Noel and Walk favorite Kurt Schweigman will celebrate the anthology, Red Indian Road West: Native American Poetry from California. At 6:00 PM the Petaluma Poetry Walk will finale at Aqus Café with San Francisco poet laureate Kim Shuck, City Lights poet Tongo Eisen-Martin, 2012 Pen Oakland Lifetime Achievement Award poet Q. R. Hand Jr. and San Francisco poet E. K. Keith. The Petaluma Poetry Walk changes venues each hour until the last venue, Aqus Cafe, which lasts about two hours. Poetry lovers are welcomed at any time. The Petaluma Poetry Walk was founded by Sonoma County poet laureate emerita Geri Digiorno in 1996 to celebrate the art of poets and poetry in the greater SF Bay Area in historic downtown Petaluma. It is always on the third Sunday of September. All readings are free (& we pass the hat.)
