“There is a redwood tree waiting to meet you,” says California Naturalist Laura Wagner.
Join us for the Redwood Experience at Jack London State Historic Park on a mix of hiking, scientific learning, sensory activities and mindful meditation. Participants will discover the fortifying energy of the forest as they travel to the park’s only ancient redwood, the 2,000-year-old giant of Sonoma Mountain.
The group will take a moderately paced 4+mile hike, gaining 620 feet in elevation, stopping occasionally for “experiences” using touch, scent, sound and sight to connect with the environment and encounter the forest in a deeper way.
The event will conclude with a guided redwood meditation session, and a silent hiking section through the fairy ring forest ending at about 11:30.
Bring: Water, hiking poles, if you have one, a bandana or eye mask (for ‘Find Your Tree Activity), wear layered clothing suitable for the weather. The hike takes place on uneven, rocky terrain so sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended.
Note: Heavy Rain Cancels
Tickets are $10, plus entry fee of $10 per vehicle.
