Sonoma County artist, Ron Sumner, presents For the Love of Nature, a collection of paintings that highlight the phenomenal flora and fauna found in nature. From the glory of Yosemite to the majestic “king of the jungle,” these paintings elicit a sense of awe. Painted in oil, “Lion” sets his gaze on us, boldly asserting his all powerful presence. “Yosemite,” also in oil, sets forth an expansive scene of the valley’s iconic rock formations, framed by the forest evergreens. Circling back to the home front, Sumner presents a new watercolor, “Pasture Pastime,” a young cow resting in a field. The exhibit will also feature some of the artist’s favorite subject matter – birds. “For an artist, nature is always fascinating and an never ending source of inspiration,” noted Sumner.
A lifelong Northern Californian, Sumner began his art training in school. After earning a BFA from the CA College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, he was a technical illustrator for a number of years before becoming a full-time fine arts painter. He is award-winning and has exhibited widely. His awards include Best of Show at the Society of Western Artists; his portrait of John F. Kennedy is part of the permanent collection in the Kennedy Library; his painting, “Red Tail Hawk” was selected for Splash 15, Best of Watercolor. Last year Sumner participated in the Veterans Art Show for CA veterans in Petaluma.
Meet the Artist: Sumner will be hosting the Gallery May 11, 11 am to 6 pm and May 19 & 24, 2:30 – 6 pm.
The Stairway Small Works Showcase presents Willow LaLand’s A Taste of Wine Country, a collection of paintings that highlight the vineyard carpeted landscape and the luxuriant tones of the elegant wines, themselves. The exhibit includes some of the artist’s fauve series, works that play up vibrant contrasting colors. “Fauve Fitch Mountain” glows with its vibrant blues over reds. Known for her dramatic realism, collectors have been known to comment that hanging a LaLand landscape is like putting in a window on a beautiful vineyard.
Meet the Artist: LaLand will be hosting the Gallery May 12 & 26, 11am to 6 pm.
