Art Reception: Places from the Heart

Sat, June 3, 2023, 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm

JUNE EXHIBIT: PLACES FROM THE HEART

EXHIBIT DATES:  May 29 – July 2, 2023

RECEPTION: SATURDAY, JUNE 3, 3-5:30 PM:  Join Linda Barretta and Tosya Shore  to celebrate the show and discuss the art and its inspirations.  Refreshments will be served.

Sonoma County artist, Linda Barretta, presents Places from the Heart, oil paintings that translate the artist’s strong sense of place into vibrant landscape masterpieces.  Working in the colorist tradition, these works are filled with the magic of color:  the saturated lights and shadows pulse with intensity.  From the forest to the vineyards to the coast, Barretta’s works express her passion for these familiar places.  Highlighting the grandeur of the Sonoma Coast, “Headlands, Bodega Bay” features its rugged cliffs crowned by bursts of colorful vegetation.  Shades of yellow mustard star in “Casting Light,” a plein air piece painted close to home.  “I often think about what Charles Hawthorne said about colors – ‘make them sing and vibrate’ – this is my goal,” noted Barretta.  Reflecting the artist’s eye for color and passion for place, these works bring new light to beloved scenes

Barretta lives and works in Healdsburg.  Known for working in the colorist tradition, she developed her impressionist style and skills through numerous hours of plein air painting and studying with master artists.  When Barretta paints the composition, she is observing the play of light and colors that will express the quality of the scene.  This is a task but one that she loves.  From the rough sketch to the final brush stroke, the scene becomes her creation, a place to be lost in while the rest of the world falls away.  Barretta has participated in the Art Trails Open Studio program and her works are exhibited throughout the country.

Meet the Artist: Barretta will be hosting the Gallery June 3,4,19,26, 2023 from 2:30 – 6pm and welcomes your visit then.

The Stairway Showcase presents Tosya Shore’s The Shape of Water, small work watercolor paintings that explore this important element in its many forms.  Not your grandma’s watercolorist, Shore’s work surprises and excites with its bold use of color and dynamic compositions.  Bright colors in “Out And A Boot” conjure Fred Astaire singing in the rain.  These works truly express the artist’s passion for water.  “I could live in water.  We’re so blessed with volumes after missing it desperately during the drought years,” said Shore.

Meet the Artist: Shore will be hosting the Gallery June 6 and June 12 from 11am to 6pm.
