Mr. Music and the Love Choir are hosting the 6th annual Beatles Singalong and Dance at the Sebastopol Community Center on April 12th as a Flood Relief Benefit for the Community Center. The Sebastopol Community Cultural Center sustained major damage in the recent flood and has been closed in their main hall since then. Many classes have been moved to other locations, and the Annex, which was built above the flood stage, remains open and active.
The Community Center staff and volunteers did an heroic job of pulling up the wooden floor and getting everything up on the stage prior to the water coming in, but there was major damage to the walls, bathrooms, and kitchen. Even the acoustical ceiling tiles absorbed moisture and will need to be replaced. However the hearty stage, built by the Rotary Club after the first flood in 1986, survived its fourth major flood without damage.
The Benefit Concert “With a Little Help from My Friends” will be the first in the main hall since the Community Center got a ‘provisional occupancy permit’ from the county. The community is encouraged to come out, to help out this lovely old barn that has hosted so many events over the years. Dress up as your favorite Beatle, or character from a Beatles song, or pull out you best 60s tie dye for this fun event.
The Love Choir with Mr. Music will open the show at 7:30 with a big singalong, followed by Pepperland with special guest for a dance on the hardwood floor that has been put back down. Special guests include: Buzzy Martin, Doug Jayne, Frank Hayhurst, Guerillaccpella and many more.
Tickets for the event are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door and are available online at www.seb.org. There will be cold Lagunitas beer, fine local wine and snacks. All proceeds will benefit the recovery efforts of the Sebastopol Community Cultural Center. All contributions gladly accepted.
