Big Baby
Big Baby was “born” in Novato, California in early 2023 and has a following that is growing fast. Though they’re all fathers, this is not your typical dad band. These four pros play clever original rock and funk with tight arrangements, three-part harmonies and solid grooves. In addition to their own material, the band plays well-known cover songs to add some familiar ingredients to the Big Baby formula. Whatever the crib or cradle, Big Baby’s gonna make it rock.Scott Steward, on guitar and vocals, was born a musical baby. At age six he asked his mother if he could write songs or if they’d all been written. She told him he could write any song he wanted and he still does. Starting in his teens, he gigged regularly in the country rock bars of Arizona before moving to San Francisco. Since he plays well with others, he formed several original bands, shared stages with local luminaries and finally grew up to be the funky Big Baby he is today. On bass and vocals, Jonathan Bassil is a familiar figure to music fans in Marin and beyond. He’s played in many great original and cover bands over the years and collaborated and recorded with local luminaries like Bill Spooner of the Tubes. Before he was a Big Baby, Jonathan once had the loud pleasure of opening for the Ramones, but his rockin’ originals won’t leave you sedated.Jon Schoen began playing piano and singing as a teenager and soon found himself immersed in the Bay Area music scene. After a two-year stint in Germany playing with the band Superstition, Jon returned to the States where he has been involved in numerous performing and recording projects before beginning his Big Babyhood. An infant’s first instrument is usually a drum, and for young Jeff Brewer, it was love at first strike. Jeff studied music in college and then made a living playing drums for several years. After a career as a model maker for the film industry then as a rocket designer, he’s back on the drum throne and groovier than ever. Jeff had been in different bands with Scott and Jonathan previously and now, for the first time, the three are in the same musical playpen with their new playmate, Jon.
