“The Songs On ‘Heartbreak Residue’ Sound Like A Novel Set To Music. ” – J. Poet — East Bay Express
Briget Boyle’s songs are compelling reminders that healing is coming. With gritty, vulnerable lyrics, pristine vocals, and driving playing on her antique Gibson J45, Briget’s rock-tinged songs center truth-telling power in the human voice. Briget’s songs often inspire listeners to put pen to paper, clear their throats, and dust off their old guitars. What will happen when you listen?
Heartbreak Residue, the new LP from Bay-Area songwriter and activist Briget Boyle is a record that is ripe with raw, honest emotion. Buoyed by propulsive percussion and shimmering electric guitar, Boyle paints melodic pictures of the pivotal moments in life. Told with an eloquent economy of language, she speaks to the universal human experience. The tales written in this melodic jewelbox journal are imbued with a bittersweet nostalgia, yet they are far from maudlin. Rather, Boyle’s gift of a voice, leaping effortlessly from aching and intimate, to a soaring, razor-edged flash of power, rings with such a purity of sentiment that the listener is immediately drawn into her world, soon to find themselves shouting along with every chorus.
Briget is celebrating the official release of the music video for the title track off of Heartbreak Residue AND the 5-year anniversary celebration of the release of her second album, The Next Line. Brand new merchendise will be available at the show!
Brightdarkdawn
With intricate guitar and nature-based lyrics, the music enfolds the listener in stories of the Earth’s deep time. The music illuminates the storied existence of the natural world in all its beauty, vulnerability, strength, and ferocity. The guitar work is reminiscent of folk traditions using sounds and stylings in the vein of Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and Buffy Sainte-Marie. Brightdarkdawn is a project of songwriter/composer Anne Carol Mitchell, a queer woman living in Sebastopol, California, cultivating food and community with her partner and ornery orange tuxedo tabby.
