‘Zoe the Zoologist’ – Opening of Art Exhibition at Fort Ross State Historic Park

Zoe the Zoologgist art exhibit at Fort Ross
Sat, April 8, 2023, 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm

On Saturday, April 8, Fort Ross Conservancy will host the opening of a new and vibrant exhibit by talented local artist Suzanne deVeuve. The ‘Zoe the Zoologist’ special exhibition opening will celebrate the diversity of our planet’s ecosystems through beautiful oil paintings and poetic verse by deVeuve’s collaborator (and son) Timothy Kelly. Each piece in this collection captures the unique character and spirit of a different biome, from lush tropical forests to freezing windswept tundras, and showcases the incredible array of animals that inhabit them.

Through the interplay of vivid color, light, and shadow, each painting transports you to a different corner of the world, inviting you to explore the sights and sounds of a particular biome. Accompanying each painting is a poem that captures the essence of the scene, and displays delightful wordplay. Timothy Kelly is a longtime science educator and volunteers at Fort Ross Conservancy. This art/poetry collaboration is a sneak preview of the second book in the ‘Little Girls/Big Science’ series and a follow-up work to the fun and successful Astrid the Astronaut. Whether you are a nature lover, a poetry enthusiast, or simply looking for a visual feast for the senses, “Zoe the Zoologist” promises to delight and inspire you.

So pack a picnic, put on your hiking shoes, and come explore all that this amazing park has to offer! For a full schedule of events, visit https://www.fortross.org/events or call (707) 847-3437
