Come cozy in for a night of old tales and songs from before and the beyond. Traditional & contemporary tunes will be brought back to life by local songwriter Maya McNeil and Ben Pearl, of the duo The Lilac & the Apple.
Join in as we sail the lonely seas of beloved grief hymns and historical tellings, as spirits walk and the days grow dark. This is the time of year that we light the fires in our bellies and hearths, bring in the harvest, share stories, and remember our dead. Let’s sing and toast to them, dressed in our very best. At the show’s intermission, we will pick the dapperest outfit or costume, to be rewarded with a charm and a drink!
Maya McNeil is a Scottish-American singer and songwriter based in the Bay Area of California. McNeil is a visionary artist, steeped and trained in multiple disciplines of holistic health, traditional medicine, and song craft. Inspired by folk music’s function in social movement and change from a young age, McNeil lovingly emulates a contemporary bard; amplifying stories of lessons learned and the human experience through timeless melodies, with a focused voice.
Their debut album, ‘Waiting for the Light to Change’ completes the beginning of Autumn 2023
Multi-instrumentalist Ben Pearl grew up in the Central Valley of California. A fan of the delta breeze, he enjoys the occasional midnight t-shirt weather and long walks on the creek.

With intricate guitar and nature-based lyrics, the music enfolds the listener in stories of the Earth’s deep time. The music illuminates the storied existence of the natural world in all its beauty, vulnerability, strength, and ferocity. The guitar work is reminiscent of folk traditions using sounds and stylings in the vein of Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and Buffy Sainte-Marie.
Brightdarkdawn is a project of songwriter/composer Anne Carol Mitchell, a queer woman living in Sebastopol, California, cultivating food and community with her partner and ornery orange tuxedo tabby.
