The Healdsburg Farmers’ Market’s 38th annual Pumpkin Festival combines carving skills, pumpkin decorating and racing abilities, and a costume contest to win market bucks and great prizes donated by local businesses.
Multiple competitions at this event give festival goers an opportunity to let their creativity shine and win great prizes. The traditional pumpkin “car” race requires entrants to decorate a small pumpkin, insert wheels into it, so it can be raced down the market track. Prizes are given for decoration, and market bucks are won by race heat winners.
Another competition revolves around pumpkin carving. Participants can carve on site, with pumpkins provided by the market, or they can bring a pumpkin they carved from home.
A third event is a costume contest. No pre-made costumes or kits allowed.
Market customers are the judges. Every visitor is given the opportunity to vote for their favorites.
Prizes are donated by a host of local businesses, including Shelton’s Natural Foods, Pizzando/Spoonbar, Amy’s Wicked Slush, Copperfield Books, Toy Chest, as well as the market itself, which gives out lots of “market bucks,”: good at any vendor’s booth.
