Join us IN CELEBRATION as we wind up our 25th season of orchestral music-making in Sonoma County.

♪ We open with Glinka’s overture to Ruslan and Ludmila. This musical roller coaster starts with a bang and then charges headlong through exclamatory chords and scrambling scales, all wickedly fast. Prepare for an exhilarating sonic ride!

♪ Changing the mood, we next turn to Villa-Lobos and his Bachianas Brasileiras No.4. It’s one of nine works exploring the conjunction of JS Bach and the composer’s native Brazil. Each movement has two titles: one reflecting a Bach form, the other suggesting the special Brazilian nature of the music.

♪ We conclude our season with Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, a 1937 work composed at a fraught political moment under perilous personal circumstances. It’s a profound and timely piece of music that speaks directly to our own complicated, uncertain age, and to a future that can still be faced with heroism and hope.
