The quintessential troubadour, John lives his life through his guitar. With creative exploration and a resilient spirit he continues to carve out a career with honesty, compassion and joy. Values which form the basis of all of his music. Early 2017 John landed in NYC with a guitar called Grace and no smart phone. This marked the start of his solo adventures on the road and extensive touring throughout five continents. John’s debut album “Chasing My Grace” was recorded at Neil Finn’s Roundhead Studios in Auckland, and released in early 2020. During his time in Australia John collaborated with ARIA winning producer Adrian Breakspear (Gang Of Youths, CLEWS, Johnny Hunter) after Adrian saw John performing in a small bar north of Sydney. This became the stripped back, acoustically driven EP “Time To Think”. Like many musicians, the last few years forced John off grid . Finding refuge in a field of artisans on a french island he began work on what has become John Mason and the Hot Tub Gypsies. “We Had It All” is the beginning of an extended release schedule with more than an albums worth of new music to follow. This single was chosen as the first release for its upbeat production and playful presentation of how we can move forward. 2022 marks our emergence from the shadows and John has worked harder than ever on his craft with some surprising and beautiful results. “My take away from these challenging years is the importance of music, especially for a world in recovery”.
