Hanna Haas is a songwriter drawn to the dance of light and dark. Based in Portland Oregon and recently relocated to her native California, she has come to call the entire West Coast home. Hanna describes her music as “contemplative folk,” identifying with artists such as Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell and Feist for their alternate tunings and mesmerizing melodies. Inspired by the environments in which she has inhabited, Hanna sings of the dramatic landscape of Big Sur, the California sun and the vast and open Pacific Northwest sky. Her debut album “To Her, the Sea” is out now. Each song seeks to capture the blessings and curses of our lives and the beauty of both—such as how warm and pleasant the sun feels after many days of rain, how bright the stars can shine amidst such darkness, how small one can feel when looking up at the vast sky. The album was produced and engineered by Sean Ogilvie and features a talented cast including Zach Gerzon, Luke Ydstie (Blind Pilot), Dan Hunt (Neko Case), Jeremy Ferrera (Margo Cilker), Nate Crockett (Horse Feathers) Micah Rabwin, Denzel Mendoza, Philippe Bronchtein, and Jeffrey Martin.
Lindsay Clark finds balance between traditional folk, country and her own style of experimental folk. She has carved out her place as an artist with a penchant for poetry, rich harmony and a unique style of self-taught fingerpicking, with influences ranging from Elizabeth Cotton, Joni Mitchell, the Beach Boys, Appalachian folk music and classical music. Originally from the small gold rush town of Nevada City, CA, she now resides in Portland, OR. She has shared the stage with artists Alela Diane, Nat Baldwin (Dirty Projectors), Jolie Holland, Ryan Francesconi (Joanna Newsom) and Michael Hurley. Her latest album, Carpe Noctem was called “stunning” by Bob Boilen (NPR Music) and features Alela Diane, William Tyler, + Sage Fisher (Dolphin Midwives). 2018’s Crystalline was hailed “a rare exhibition of the weight that minimalism can bear in contemporary, reflective folk music.” (Popmatters) She is currently working on a subsequent full-length album for release in 2024.
