Thu, April 6, 2023, 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm

On Thursday, April 6, the Cloverdale Arts Alliance will continue THE Jazz Club season with the Mads Tolling. Joining Mads for this performance will be jazz pianist Colin Hogan.

Internationally renowned violinist and composer Mads Tolling is originally from Copenhagen, Denmark and now lives in San Francisco. As a former member of both bassist Stanley Clarke’s band and the celebrated Turtle Island Quartet, Mads won two Grammy Awards and was nominated for a third. He is the winner of the 2016 DownBeat Critics Poll for rising star violinist. Mads has performed with Chick Corea, Ramsey Lewis, Kenny Barron, Paquito D’Rivera, Leo Kottke and Sergio & Odair Assad as well as with his own groups, The Mads Tolling Quartet and Mads Tolling & The Mads Men. Mads currently tours with Bob Weir & Wolf Bros/Pack, and the group has released three albums to date.

For this concert, Mads will be collaborating with jazz pianist Colin Hogan. Colin has performed on five continents playing everything from jazz, funk, salsa, and hip-hop to tango and Balinese gamelan. He has performed with many legendary jazz musicians including James Moody, Peter Erskine, Bob Brookmeyer, Roy Ayers, and Maria Schneider.

Mads and Colin met ten years ago through the eclectic San Francisco jazz scene, where they both played with the groove collective, Jazz Mafia. For eight years Colin has now been a part of Mads Tolling & The Mads Men, and he is a great contributor of arrangements to the group, including Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower.”

The two will perform songs from their album, Playing the 60s, standards and sprinkle in a few originals and perhaps even a Danish folk tune or two. Don’t miss a rare opportunity to hear these amazing musicians in an intimate setting.
