Northern California based female-fronted rock band, Mama Said, has a distinctly retro sound inspired by classic rock of the late 70’s/early 80’s and its revival of the early 90’s. Singles from their debut album “Change in the Weather,” co-written and produced by Jim McGorman of The Goo Goo Dolls, are being released now. The band came out swinging in 2020, and even during a pandemic, managed to record an LP, open Bottlerock Music Festival in 2022, sell out shows at the famed Blue Note in Napa, and garner radio play for their singles. They’ve been tapped to support Rock & Roll Hall-of-Famer Mike Campbell (Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac) at the Uptown Theatre in May 2023, and will appear again at Bottlerock Music Festival 2023 featuring Lizzo, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Duran Duran, Sheryl Crow and more.
Between them, lead singers Latifa Reeves and Jennifer Knight have lived and sung professionally in Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City, Chicago, and New Orleans in addition to the SF Bay Area. Latifa’s soulful belt can shake the rafters, a perfect complement to Jennifer’s warm, resonant edge-of-breakup delivery. Together the duo is unstoppable—their interchanging leads and harmonies paired with lead guitarist Derek Bromley’s soaring solos over the locktight rhythm section of Darren Schauer (drums), Nik Blankenship (bass) and Tom Furdon (rhythm guitar) often get the band compared to Fleetwood Mac and Heart, among others.
