Opening Reception for for MEDITATIONS ON HOPE: Recent paintings by SHANNON ABBEY will be held on Saturday, March 15, 5-8 pm with live music by Joyce Grant. Wine and refreshments will be served. The show will run from March 4 – April 20.
Featured artist, Shannon Abbey, is an academically trained, environmental woman artist inspired by the landscape and wildlife of Sonoma and Marin counties, especially the wetlands along the Petaluma River and San Pablo Bay. Her work is about this place, the natural world of the North Bay, combining representation with abstraction.
Her work often reflects her connection to wildlife and landscapes. Abbey uses acrylic on wood panels, both in the studio and on location, and was recently an Artist-in-Residence at Glacier National Park.
Abbey’s work focuses on the regenerative power of nature and the importance of human awareness in preserving it. She strives to replace the dread of climate change with hope, finding inspiration in fabric and the layering of textures, similar to her acrylic painting techniques. Her view on the natural world echoes Jonathan Franzen’s thoughts on the “radical otherness” of birds, reminding us that we are not the measure of all things.
