MISNER & SMITH:
Fresh off the release of their critically acclaimed new album, Northern California-based unclassifiable duo Misner & Smith return home to Sonoma County with a full band to play a special album release show. The duo has played HopMonk many times over the years, and with All is Song they turn in their finest work to date–an album of inspired declarations to the power of music, song, and collaboration. Technically precise songwriting mirrored with an improvisatory spirit and soaring harmonies have made the band one of the most acclaimed acts in the Americana world. Blending elements of that genre with bluegrass, traditional folk ballads, and more pop-leaning ideas, Misner & Smith makes music gloriously nonconforming. Teaming up with the duo on both the new album and for this show will be two of the musicians whose contributions were foundational to the new record. Co-producer, and multi-instrumentalist Bruce Kaphan (American Music Club, David Byrne, The Black Crowes) will be featured on pedal steel guitar, keyboards, and electric guitar. Oakland-based drummer and multi-instrumentalist Dillon Vado will be featured on drums. This show will celebrate the official North Bay release of Misner & Smith’s sixth album, All is Song.

Lola Guthrie is a young folk singer-songwriter from Sebastopol, California. She writes poetically about the modern world, human longing, mortality, and the beauty in life. She often weaves cultural myths into her lyrics and draws on her experiences as an activist and traveler for inspiration. She recorded her first album, Shadows, as a senior in high school.
