Join LandPaths and Ag + Open Space for a post-fire ecology hike at Saddle Mountain, a 900+ acre open space preserve in the Mayacamas Mountains, protected forever by an Ag + Open Space conservation easement.
In 2020 the Glass Fire spread into the preserve, burning it almost entirely. Across Saddle Mountain this nature preserve experienced a slower moving “ground fire” burning up mostly surface fuels and no tree canopies only scorching tree leaves and needles despite the wind and fuel conditions. Facilitated by Miles Sarvis-Wilburn, LandPaths’ stewardship specialist and wildland firefighter, you’ll explore the impact of fire on the landscape and see the resiliency of habitats that have co-evolved with fire. The preserve is normally closed to the public, so this is a great opportunity to explore nature close to Santa Rosa’s urban downtown core.
