In its first in person concert since Fall 2019, the Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus conducted by Marisa Troppy will perform on Sunday, May 22nd, 2022 at 3:00 PM. The concert will be held at the Church of the Roses, 2500 Patio Court, Santa Rosa. Tickets may be purchased at www.santarosasymhonicchorus.com or at the door.
The May 22 concert will be a varied program ranging from Baroque (Vivaldi’s “Credo”) to Contemporary (Dan Forrest’s “Light Beyond Shadow”), as well as works featuring early 20th century women composers Florence Price (“Praise the Lord”) and Alice Parker (“Bright Morning Stars”). There will be a fundraiser held for causes in Ukraine available at the concert, and the Ukrainian National Anthem will also be performed.
As the second female Artistic Director with the Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus since its founding in 1934, Marisa Troppy’s life is deeply rooted in Sonoma County’s rich choral tradition. She began her choral journey with the Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus, Santa Rosa High School Chamber Singers, Santa Rosa Junior College Chamber Singers, and Chanticleer’s Youth Lab Choir (San Francisco). Her first exposure to a masterwork was in high school, singing Brahms’ German Requiem, under the Direction of Bruno Ferrandis alongside the Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus. That experience sparked her decision to pursue a career in choral music.. After receiving two associates at SRJC, Marisa earned a Bachelor of Music Education and Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Arizona. There, she studied choral conducting with award winning educator, Dr. Elizabeth Schauer and trained as a vocalist with international performer and lyric soprano, Yunah Lee. As a capstone to her undergraduate degrees Marisa student-taught abroad in Norway where she joined the Rosendal Songlag as a Mezzo Soprano and soloist for the winter season.
