Synergy Ecstatic Dance honors the Cosmic Fool, who helps us discover the possibilities and aliveness of Spring.

~Flow for Saturday, Mar 25th~
5:45pm – Door opens
6pm – Partner Dance Lesson – w/ Stem and Hillary
…..to participate, arrive before door closes at 6:15pm……
7pm – Opening Intentions and Guided Group Singing – w/ Eric
7:15pm – Ecstatic Dance Wave – w/ DJ Zaphod
…..to participate, arrive before door closes at 7:45pm……
9:15pm – Closing Circle and Guided Group Singing

Here’s the simple version about timing of doors being open and closed to new people: if you want to join the Class and/or the Ecstatic Dance, just arrive before it starts. The intention here is to create a safe space to slow down and move slowly, and that takes a container and a commitment, in this modern world.
*Though doors close to new people at certain times, people within the container can move freely in and out*

We also need folks to offer 45 minutes of help – in trade to attend the event. Message Eric to coordinate.

~Theme: Fool’s Gold ~
Mardi Gras, Purim, Carnival (any other holidays of the “Fool” at this time from your ancestries?)… for some reason/s, people all across the world have honored the Sacred Fool at this time of year. Perhaps the Fool helps us to shake off the rigidness in our bodies from winter and the rigidness in our culture, to make space for new possibilities and to open our senses to the beauty of life, as Spring sun starts to shine and grow the greenest grass. We’re flipping the phrase “Fool’s Gold” from “false surface value” to “revealing deeper values”.

~Partner Dance Class~
Learn and experience some insights on how to deepen and enjoy sharing a dance with another person. No need to bring a partner, though you may.

Stem has been hooked on Blues Fusion partner dancing for the last decade, co-founding North Bay Fusion and now Pulse Partner Dance Collective (find us on fb). He sees the dance floor as a mirror for our lives, and welcomes all of our authentic humanness to awaken and express itself within the music and the partnered connection. With a background in mens work, he strives to bring awareness and attunement to dynamics of power, consent and desire that play out in the dance and he brings passion and playfulness to create a container of safety and exploration.

Hillary Mendoza, known to some as Dr. Booty Duty has been grooving on the dance floor since the dawn of her time. She’s obsessed with booty moves and partner dance, loves a Latin beat mixed with electro-funk, and the art of droppin’ low and serving face. She loves to share her love of partner dance and the deep intimacy that comes with subtle attunement.
If you’re ready to deeply attune AND drop it like it’s hot, come join Dr. Booty Duty. She’ll have you connected and strutting your stuff like a dancefloor boss in no time!

From mixed CDs in high school, to radio shows in college, to finding E-dance in Santa Cruz 7 years ago, he delights in diversity and loves to experiment. You’ve been warned!
Together with the dancers, he spontaneously curates an ecstatic wave unique to that moment’s dancefloor. The boundaries of genre give way to a multi-faceted soundscape of African and South American rhythm, world electronica, grimy glitchy bass, and heart-ful melodies aplenty!
May we allow the music, familiar and fresh, to dissolve the monkey mind and give the body its own voice.

Ecstatic Dance guidelines:
-no talking on the dance floor (yes talking in tea lounge and outside)
-no shoes on the dance floor (yes barefoot and socks)
-no photography (yes presence)
-no mind-altering substances (yes dance medicine)
-yes consent (listen for the yes, respect the no)
-yes freedom of expression
