THE WESTERN SWING CARAVAN makes a stop at the Redwood Cafe Stage. Western swing music has deep roots in California. Whether it’s Bob Wills famous band filling dance halls and making Hollywood movies in the 40’s and 50’s, Asleep at the Wheel’s Marin county tenure in the 70’s, the great Lost Weekend band from the east bay that continues to this day or Sonoma country’s own Western Swing Caravan this is music that that recalls the enormously popular swing dance music of the Texas Playboys!
What is Western Swing? Simply, it’s infectious dance music that melds the fiddle music tradition of Texas honky tonks and the south east, with classic country music familiar to fans of music that came out of Bakersfield and the rough and tumble side of Nashville’s glory years.
The Western Swing Caravan is a collection of many of the bay area’s finest musicians:
Bobby Black– steel guitar & infectious grin
Tim Sarter– bass, vocals, impeccable timing
Cori Wood– lead & harmony vocals, authentic country girl
Michael Stadler– fiddle, mandolin, powerhouse vocals
Rick Cutler– drums, fancy shirts, the human metronome
Kevin Russell– guitar, vocals, set list maker
Candy Girard– fiddle, sweet vocals, cowgirl sensibility
Paul Shelasky– fiddle, cringe worthy jokes
